Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"The restaurant is located in a vibrant side of Kampung Baru which is filled with various popular eatries. Despite being near those spots, it seems that Nasi Lemak Wanjo is the most popular out of them as it seems to draw the most crowd. The morning breakfast crowd almost fills out the entire premises. Trying out their menu offerings will give some hints as to why that's the case. The restaurant offers various "addons" on top of their signature nasi lemak serving. At the most basic form, it consists of the nasi lemak, sliced cucumbers, fried anchovies, sambal, and a whole boiled egg. Customers can add a wide range of menu, including chickens, fishes, etc. to their liking. With a price of RM11.50 for a sizable portion of nasi lemak with ayam goreng, it is quite the value for customer's money. The restaurant is a moderate-distance walk away from Kampung Baru LRT Station, which is served by LRT Kelana Jaya Line. The pathway network is complete from the station to the restaurant, although some form of crossing will be required."
"I came here because it went viral and had good reviews, and it was delicious, although the chili sauce was a bit sweet. Maybe that's just the nature of the chili sauce. I ordered two portions, with fried chicken and fried tempeh. It was quite tasty, so I even added rice and chili sauce, even though the chili sauce was very sweet for me, which I prefer salty and spicy There are plenty of side dishes to choose from. What's a bit different from other nasi lemak is that the anchovies are fried in flour, I think, and there are no peanuts in this nasi lemak. There's a wide selection of drinks, hot and cold, and juices. There's also plenty of seating. You can choose between regular seating or air-conditioned seating. My advice: sit in the regular seating area; it gives you a more authentic feel. The prices are quite cheap and affordable"
"Fast service even long Q. Various choice of food they even had cafe so can try cup of coffee n pastries. Minus 1 star because nasi lemak not include peanuts. Sambal n rice taste wise. Portion also reasonable with the price. Aircond room pay extra RM1."
"Nasi Lemak Wanjo is an absolute must-visit if you’re in Kuala Lumpur, especially around Kampung Baru. This place truly lives up to its legendary reputation. The nasi lemak is fragrant and fluffy, perfectly cooked with rich coconut aroma that already sets the tone from the first bite. What really stands out is the variety of lauk (side dishes). From crispy fried chicken, sambal sotong, rendang, paru, telur, to ayam masak merah—everything is well-seasoned, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The sambal is the star: spicy, slightly sweet, and deeply satisfying, without overpowering the other components. Despite being very popular and often crowded, the service is quite efficient and well-organized. The staff are used to handling large crowds, so the flow is smooth and the waiting time is reasonable. Prices are fair and totally worth it for the quality and portion sizes you get. The atmosphere feels very local and authentic, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Nasi Lemak Wanjo isn’t just food—it’s a true taste of Malaysian heritage. Highly recommended for locals and tourists alike. Will definitely come back!"
"A popular spot for nasi lemak lovers, offering a wide variety of lauk to choose from. The rice is fragrant, and the side dishes are well-prepared. The only downside for me was the sambal, which leaned a little too sweet and overpowered the usual spicy balance. Everything else was on point. The restaurant is strategically located and always bustling with customers, which speaks for itself. Wanjo coffee pairs nicely with the meal. The place is clean, and service is impressively fast despite the crowd. Overall, a satisfying nasi lemak experience with just a small tweak needed on the sambal."
"A great spot for authentic nasi lemak in Kampung Baru. You can choose your favourite dishes and build your own plate, which makes the experience fun and flexible. If you’re not sure what to order, the staff are very kind and happy to explain the dishes or suggest recommendations. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable, even for solo dining. Everything I tried was delicious."
"Wide array of lauk (dishes) to choose from however the sambal is a tad too sweet for my preference. Arrived early around 730am and very little crowd. Normal plate comes with full hard boiled egg but there's option to change to telur mata. Doesn't come with groundnuts. Doesn't charge for extra sambal. Nasi lemak ayam rendang + kopi o is RM13.36 (tax included)"
"A popular spot for Nasi Lemak in Kuala Lumpur. We visit this place every time we go to Malaysia. The food is great and the sambal is delicious. Large portions with affordable prices. My kids love the Nasi Lemak Ayam Merah because it has a nice sweet taste. They also provide a water refill station"
